August in Duluth is full of fantastic events and fun for the whole family! Starting with August 1, we have the Brewhouse Triathlon for the adults and the Root Beer Triathlon for the kids. The Duluth Playhouse is presenting Guys & Dolls and the kids will love a Day out with Thomas the train and all his friends. The North Shore Scenic Railroad has many other train rides and tours if Thomas isn’t quite your thing.
One of the bigger events is August 7 – 9: the Bayfront Blues Festival. This open air concert venue is acoustically great and there is no better way to spend a day. There is a full line up of more than 30 entertainers and musicians over the course of the weekend covering two stages. Tickets may be purchased for a single day or the best value is to buy one for all three days.
Movies in the Park continue through Fridays in August at Leif Erickson Park on the shore of Lake Superior. Arrive before nightfall to nab a nice spot to enjoy the show and a little fresh air. The weekend of August 15 – 16 brings the Bayfront Park Arts Fair. Admission is FREE to this event.
Bayfront is full of activities and events in August. On August 21 – 22 cover bands will pay tribute to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi, Prince, Elvis, Foreigner, Journey and many more with Tribute Fest. This event raises funds for homeless veterans through rock and roll.
Also the weekend of August 21 – 22, the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival takes place just across the bay in Superior, Wisconsin, on Barkers Island. This event raises money for area charities through the Rotary Club and for the Essentia Health Foundation. This event is FREE and we guarantee you will have a great time!
The sailboat races on Lake Superior happen every Wednesday and can be viewed from any vantage point along the shore. We recommend going to Fitger’s Midi Restaurant and viewing the races while eating dinner or enjoying a beverage outside at their Tiki Bar.
Visit Duluth and enjoy the last days of summer now!
