June is host to the first official day of summer and there are lots of things to do and events in Duluth, MN. The home team, Duluth Huskies, have started the season and there are plenty of games to take in during the lovely month of June. If you have never attended a game at Wade Stadium, you should know that it is more than just a baseball game. There are games and fun for the whole family during the game between innings and at the end of the game.
Every Tuesday during the summer you can enjoy a free concert at Chester Bowl. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the summer night with some great music. Another free thing to do on Tuesdays is the sailboat races by the Duluth Yacht Club.
You can enjoy a brewery tour most any night of the week. The Duluth Experience will take care of all the details for tours, tastings and transportation. You even get a meal included with your tour. With the explosion of craft breweries, this is a must for all beer lovers.
Of course, the biggest weekend in June, Grandma’s Marathon weekend is June 20 – 21. Friday events include the Whipper Snapper race at Bayfront Festival Park for all the kids in the afternoon. The evening hosts the William A. Irvin 5K race that begins at the famed ship in Canal Park. The highlight of the whole weekend is the Garry Bjorklund half marathon and Grandma’s marathon on Saturday. Marathon weekend is certainly a high energy event and there are things to do for everyone throughout the weekend in Duluth’s Canal Park. Stay at the Edgewater Duluth Hotel and cheer the racers as they come along London Road. There will be food, games and music during the race in our lot.
The month is capped off with the Annual Park Point Art Fair featuring art and crafts from all over the area. In addition to the artists, you will also find fun family activities, food and live music. Admission is free! Be sure to take some time to stroll along the beach and enjoy the beauty that is Lake Superior.
The kids will love visiting Duluth Minnesota’s only indoor waterpark at the Edgewater Hotel. The whole family will love the outdoor mini golf, fire pit, swimming pool, hot tub, play area, and tiki bar. Make your reservation now before summer is gone! We have some exceptional discounts for those of you who are able to visit during the week including our Dinosaur Adventure package that includes two tickets to the new exhibit at the Children’s Museum.

With the coming of spring also comes that special day when we honor our mothers who have put up with us all these years. We wish all the mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day on May 11!
We hope you get to spend the day together and offer up these Mother’s Day suggestions:
Our top Brunch picks are Midi’s Restaurant in the Fitger’s complex, Greysolon Ballroom featuring Blackwoods Restaurant, and, one of our favorites, brunch at Glensheen Mansion featuring Savories Catering (this one includes a tour!). Of course, our very own breakfast is a top notch buffet with yummy, gooey cinnamon rolls, meats, eggs, a yogurt parfait bar and much more!
There are some other fun and interesting suggestions to make for this day. Fairlawn Mansion in Superior, Wisconsin is offering half price admission for tours. The Miller Hill Mall has a Mother’s Day fashion show starting at 9 am.
Weather permitting, a walk in Canal Park or along the Lakewalk is always enjoyable and it’s one of the free things to do in Duluth!
If you are staying at the Edgewater Hotel while visiting your mother, access to the Lakewalk is right out the back door and our breakfast buffet is on site. And you will certainly enjoy the view of Lake Superior while you are here. Happy Mother’s Day!
